Leaders of 2019 Sneak Peek

Recognizing Excellence in School District Leadership

Each year, Education Week identifies some of the nation’s most exceptional school district leaders and shines a spotlight on their extraordinary impact on the success of educators and students in its Leaders To Learn From special report. We are excited to reveal three of our 2019 honorees early.

You will meet:

•   A New York superintendent whose laser-like focus on ending entrenched inequities in his district is driven, in part, by his own experiences as a child in foster care;
•   A West Virginia math instructional coach whose belief in the power of teachers collaborating to solve problems has led her rural district to some of the highest math performance in the state; and
•   A South Los Angeles charter school network CEO who has created STEM-focused schools meant to shape neighborhood children into high-tech problem-solvers.

These leading-edge district leaders seized on smart ideas, executed them deftly, and are seeing promising results for their students and school communities.

Education Week’s full list of Leaders for 2019 will be announced in February.
